Another’s Mother’s Day is coming up and this year I’m lucky. I get to be with both my children—AT THE SAME TIME! It’s a feat not easily accomplished when grown children leave town and scatter all over the place, but Christy and Jesse still live within driving distance. I’m grateful because the four of us are crazy about each other and, frankly, just plain crazy sometimes.
I can well remember the breakfasts concocted by my small children on that special Sunday morning of early motherhood. I loved it then and cherish the memory now.
My daughter once told us how much it meant to her that we’re taking such good care of ourselves. This surprise comment meant a lot to us, and we talked about it long after she’d gone home. All it takes to make someone feel good is one small sentence. Just a few words, really, can mean the world… face-to-face or over the phone, through email or text or even with a stamp.
Relationships get pretty complicated with divorces and step-parents. Everyone has a different mother circumstance if theirs is still alive, but this much is certain, regrets can weigh you down. So many people lose their moms and dads before strained relationships are repaired, and they wish they’d said “I love you” one more time… or even for the first time.
If you’re a mother, working or not… busy or not, May 12 is a perfect excuse to celebrate yourself. We made another human, shoved them out into the world, and hovered over their well-being for 18 years. Do whatever you love to do for the day. I am!
