I’ve got Greta on my mind. I haven’t been able to think of anything else since I watched Greta Thunberg’s passionate speech about global warming at the United Nations this week. I’m inspired by her passion, her eloquence, her lack of BS and political correctness. In short, she is my hero.
To realize that it takes a 16-year-old from Sweden to shake us out of our little bubbles is both disheartening and amazing. Hopefully, this quiet teenager can move the mindset of the suits in charge of our welfare. Fingers are crossed. To think that it all started with a one-person protest in front of the Swedish Parliament still makes my head spin.
Teenagers do not have world experience, of course, but there’s beauty in passion and idealism. I appreciate the power it has to jumpstart the rest of us, both political leaders and those of us under their control.
Greta’s voice has amplified the shame I feel at my own government’s inaction. I know that solutions are complicated and have to be measured carefully, but at least something’s happening beyond the bandaids we usually throw at our biggest problems. And to know that it is a teenager takes me over the moon.
Passion CAN move mountains… apparently.
